Moisturiser Packaging: Jars, Airless Pots and Pump Bottles

The moisturiser format decision is a trade-off between ritual and protection. A weighted glass jar creates the strongest in-hand experience, while an airless pot removes contamination and air contact at the cost of that opening moment.

Short answer

Moisturisers are packed in 30ml–100ml jars, airless jars or pump bottles. Open jars suit rich balms and give the strongest shelf presence; airless jars protect actives and remove finger contact; pump bottles work best for lighter, pumpable emulsions.

What decides the pack

Four variables account for most of the specification. Get these right and the rest is design.

Common formats

  • 30ml glass jar
  • 50ml double-wall jar
  • 50ml airless jar
  • 100ml pump bottle

Viscosity vs dispensing

Above roughly 100,000 cps, standard pumps and some airless pistons struggle. We test with your formula rather than guessing from a spec sheet.

Perceived weight

Heavy-base glass reads prestige but multiplies freight cost. Double-wall plastic gives most of the visual weight at a fraction of the shipping mass.

Contamination

Open jars invite finger contact. If the formula is preservative-light, an airless jar or a supplied spatula is the practical answer.

Carton support

Wide jar cartons dent easily. Heavier board and an internal platform keep the top panel flat through distribution.

Moisturizer Packaging FAQ

Choose a jar when the ritual, texture reveal and shelf weight matter and the formula is robust. Choose airless when the formula contains sensitive actives, uses a minimal preservative system, or is priced high enough that protection is part of the value story.

50ml is the global default for facial moisturisers, with 30ml used for premium concentrated creams and 100ml+ for body and multipurpose products.

It depends on the specification. Stock containers with labelling start low; custom colour, decoration and moulds raise the minimum. For custom paper boxes the standard minimum order quantity is 5,000 pieces per design, and selected paper box projects may start from a few hundred pieces subject to evaluation of the structure, material, printing method and finishing. Send the item and target quantity and we will quote the real minimum for that exact configuration rather than a generic figure.

Yes — standard samples, decoration samples and pre-production samples. Standard samples are usually available quickly; customised samples are quoted with the project because they require set-up.

Yes, through masterbatch resin colour, spray coating on glass or plastic, or printed colour on cartons. Coating gives full Pantone freedom at a lower minimum; masterbatch is more durable but needs a larger volume.
