Sustainability

Lower-impact packaging options we can document

Sustainability in packaging is a set of trade-offs, not a badge. We work with options that can be evidenced — recycled content certificates, chain-of-custody documentation, measured material reduction — and we tell you when a design decision undermines the claim you want to make.

The largest reductions almost always come from using less material and fewer components, not from swapping one coating for another.

Glass

  • Infinitely recyclable in established kerbside streams without quality loss
  • Reusable and refillable potential where a brand runs a return or refill programme
  • Lightweighting opportunities — reducing base and wall thickness cuts material and freight emissions
  • Trade-off stated plainly: glass is heavier to ship and breaks in parcel networks

Plastic

  • PCR-PET, PCR-PP and PCR-HDPE with supplier documentation of recycled content
  • Refillable systems with durable outer shells and replaceable cartridges or pods
  • Lightweighting through wall optimisation validated by drop and compression testing
  • Material selection for recyclability — mono-material PP jar, lid and disc in one stream

Paper

  • Recyclable paperboard structures with water-based varnish instead of plastic lamination
  • FSC-certified board supplied through our partner paper-box factory, which holds the chain-of-custody certificate
  • Reduced material usage through right-sizing and grammage review
  • Paper and moulded pulp inserts replacing EVA and thermoformed plastic where protection allows

Claims we will and will not print

Unqualified environmental claims attract regulatory attention in several markets and erode trust when consumers look closely. We keep to statements that can be supported with documentation.

Supportable

  • "Contains 50% post-consumer recycled PET (resin certificate available)"
  • "FSC-certified board via our partner factory, chain-of-custody forwarded on request"
  • "Mono-material PP jar, lid and disc"
  • "Carton area reduced 18% versus previous specification"

Not supportable

  • "Eco-friendly packaging"
  • "100% sustainable"
  • "Plastic-free" on a pack with a plastic closure
  • "Fully recyclable" where lamination or metallisation prevents it
