Choosing Cosmetic Packaging for a Skincare Line

Choosing Cosmetic Packaging for a Skincare Line

Choosing cosmetic packaging starts with the product and the way a customer will use it—not with a bottle shape in isolation. Before comparing finishes or requesting a quote, define the formula category, dispensing method, target market, label content and sample-evaluation plan. These details help a brand compare packaging options on the same basis and reduce avoidable changes later.

Describe the product and its use

Write a short brief covering what the product is, how often it is used, where it is applied and how the customer is expected to dispense it. A fluid product, a thicker product and a product used in small amounts may call for different dispensing experiences. Do not assume that a visually suitable container will work with every formula.

Where product safety or market compliance is involved, the finished cosmetic and its packaging should be reviewed by the responsible brand team and qualified specialists for the intended market. For example, EU Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009 sets safety requirements for cosmetic products; the applicable obligations depend on the product and market. Read the regulation on EUR-Lex.

Compare the complete pack, not only the container

List the parts that make up the proposed pack: container, closure, dispensing component, label or decoration, and any secondary packaging. Confirm which elements are included in the supplier’s proposal and which are sourced separately. The interface between parts matters: the container opening, closure and dispensing component must be considered together.

DREMTIA’s shared website preview shows product categories that include amber glass bottles, custom glass bottles and plastic serum bottles. Use the catalogue to shortlist formats, then confirm exact specifications and availability directly with the supplier before relying on them in a product plan.

Plan the label and market requirements early

Before artwork is finalized, identify the information your brand needs to place on the pack and check how much usable label area the selected format provides. Review the final wording with the person responsible for regulatory compliance in each target market. If selling in the EU, check the current cosmetic-product and packaging requirements that apply to your product and role in the supply chain; the EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation is available on EUR-Lex.

Evaluate a sample with your actual requirements

Use a written checklist: Does the chosen component match the intended dispensing method? Can the required label be placed legibly? Are the finish and colour consistent with the approved artwork? Has the brand reviewed the assembled pack and, where appropriate, tested it with the intended formula and use conditions?

Make the quote request specific

Share the intended format, requested components, target market, artwork status and any confirmed technical requirements. Ask the supplier to identify assumptions and exclusions in its quotation. Do not compare offers until you know whether they cover the same components and services.

Takeaway: Prepare your product brief and ask DREMTIA to confirm which listed packaging formats and components match the specification you provide.
